Education

ENRICH education service aims to reduce the dropout rate and improve the quality of students at the primary level by implementing educational assistance activities. Students of playgroup, Class I & II are tutored in the afternoon education assistance centers. They are given lessons on general knowledge and helped out to complete their homework. Children also take part in extra-curricular activities such as recitation of poems, dancing, singing, and drawing in these centers. According to a study, the dropout rate of primary schools in the program areas has come down to 0.06%, while it is about 4%-5% nationwide. Currently, about 1.60 lakh students are receiving educational assistance at 6,167 education centers in 198 Unions. These centers operate from 3:00pm to 5:00pm every day except on Friday.

Under this component, students are helped in the educational assistance centers to prepare their next day’s tasks, given that there are no facilities and educational support for many students at their homes. Children come to these centers after their regular school hours.

These centers take special care of the students who are generally slow learners and need extra help and time to grasp the lessons taught at their schools. Teachers are locally recruited. Anyone less than 35 years of age with a minimum of SSC-level education is prima facie qualified to be a teacher; most of the teachers are female. These educational assistance centers also monitor if the children attending the centers go to their schools regularly.
